Make-Up Call or the Right Call?
That’s what Tuesday night’s game against the Pacers came down to.
LeBron had a pretty solid game when you look at the numbers. A good field goal percentage, almost perfect free throw percentage and 7 boards to go along with 47 points. The rest of his team didn’t answer the call. James had four assists but I imagine he would have had more had his team shown up to play.
None of that matters though. Not when you commit a bonehead foul with less than a second on the clock.
In case you missed it, I’ll briefly summarize it. In a 95-93 game, with .4 seconds left, LeBron went up for a lob off an inbounds play. Danny Granger, 2009 all star, went up with him and knocked the ball away. That’s it right? Game over. Not so fast. One of the officials blew the whistle for a foul. LeBron makes both free throws. Now, with .2 seconds, Indiana runs the same play at the other end. This time Granger goes up with LeBron guarding him. The lob is short of the rim but I believe Granger still had a play on it. There was a foul on this play too, made by a different official. Granger would make the first free throw and miss the second on purpose to allow the last second of the game finally completely expire.
Mike Brown was extremely livid about the whole situation.
That last call, on the run, is the worst call that I have ever been a part of. I cannot imagine another worse call than that. It was an awful call and for him to take away a basketball game from a team with .4 seconds on the clock is irresponsible.
I don’t care if I get fined. It is what it is. I saw the two plays; just a bad call determined the outcome of that game. If they want to fine me for telling the truth, fine me. This isn’t me. I never do this.
Don’t blame the officials. You weren’t pissed when they put your guy on the line on the same exact play. You can’t have it both ways. To me, they both looked like no calls. Either way, the Cavs lose. And they either lose because LeBron couldn’t finish on an almost perfect lob pass or because he commits a bonehead foul in a tie game. Again, either way, it’s LeBron’s fault.
Cavs lose 96-95.
In other news, Chicago had a big halftime event for the Bulls great Johnny Red Kerr. In attendance were Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and many other past coaches, broadcasters, players and owners. It was a wonderful celebration.
And, the Lakers won again. Their starting center goes down and they go 5-0.
